Gartner the technology research company is urging companies to give Business Gmail serious consideration as an alternative to Microsoft Exchange as an email server. Gmail for business could prove to be a better email client than Microsoft’s Outlook.
Google already has close to half of the market for business cloud e-mail but at the moment only about 1% of the market for email servers
Gartner research vice-president, Matthew Cain stated “While cloud e-mail is still in its infancy, we expect it to be a growth industry, reaching 20% of the market by year end 2016, and 55% by year end 2020.”
Gartner warned that Google has focused on the mass market rather than the needs of really large organisations. Large organisations with complex e-mail requirements, such as financial institutions, report that Google is resistant to feature requests that would be applicable to only a small segment of its customers.
This is all pretty good news for smaller businesses as Google focusses on satisfying our needs – in general bNetCentric find that most of our customers save more than 50% by swopping from Microsoft Exchange to Google Apps for Business and just as good the features available out of the box on Google Apps for business are fantastic
